Professor Scotty Hardwig

Middlebury College Chapter Director

Scotty Hardwig is a dancer, choreographer, and digital media artist originally from the Appalachian mountains of southern Virginia.  After working primarily with poetry and music, he turned to dance as a medium for raw human expression and philosophical exploration. Using the body as a medium and various technologies as mediators, his work explores the relationship between the flesh and the digital, the human and nature, and the self and the other. With a dance technique based heavily in performance improvisation, contact improvisation and a unique contemporary vocabulary, his choreography seeks to find the boundaries of what is human in an increasingly fragmented time.
